Urban Series
After painting swimmers almost exclusively for six years, Jeannie wanted her work to evolve in subject matter while still having the same intriguing problems for her as an artist: refraction and sharp detail. The defining moment involved a phone call from the president of Macy’s who commissioned a swimmer that came with tickets to the Thanksgiving Day parade. While spending the holiday in New York, she saw the high-end fashion mannequins in stores like Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue in a totally different light. They provided the refraction and distortion of her Swimmer Series with the added element of street life reflected and superimposed over the display.
